United Airlines to Buy 15 Ultrafast Airplanes from Start-Up Boom Supersonic: Its been 18 years since the Concorde supersonic airliner flights were discontinued, but United Airlines is placing a multibillion dollar bet on the return of luxury and business travel by purchasing 15 planes from Denver-based “Boom Supersonic,” jets which the company claims could cut flying time between New York and London to only three-and-a-half hours.
