Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a strong Trump supporter who earlier this year signed a bill into law banning local governments from enacting mask and vaccine mandates, is now desperately looking for out-of-state medical personnel to help him staff Texas hospitals that are being overrun by a horrific surge in COVID cases throughout the state as a result of his policies. The governor has also requested hospitals postpone all elective surgeries until further notice.
Now let’s see. We know masks and vaccines save lives, but Gov. Abbott is strongly opposed to asking people to wear masks and get vaccines. Oh, I get it now. Gov. Abbott isn’t actually asking for help to save lives, he’s only asking outsiders to come in to help attend to those poor folks his policies have essentially condemned to death. Besides, can’t risk upsetting all those mask and vaccine-hating Trump supporters.
Of course, given that Gov. Abbott really only cares about pandering to Trump’s base and not Texas citizens, I suppose it’s a pretty safe bet to conclude he also couldn’t care less about those dedicated medical professionals who have to clean up his mess. Why, the whole situation’s becoming so distressing, it’s almost enough to send Texas Sen. Ted Cruz off on another one of his Cancun vacations.
Now, what I find interesting is, Gov. Abbott seems to have no issue whatsoever with schools mandating what kids - especially girls - have to wear when they attend classes, just as long as it doesn’t include face masks. Funny how that works. Now, one might ask, if Gov. Abbott seriously doesn’t believe masks work, then why wouldn’t he ban them from hospital operating rooms as well?
Of course, in places like Japan - people voluntarily wear masks whenever they get a cold, to avoid passing it on it to others. Republicans, on the other hand, are far too “patriotic” to ever be concerned about other people. And, I get their point. I mean, how in the hell is a good Trump patriot supposed to “own the Libs,” if they have to be concerned about the well-being of others?
